• What will the next generation of Fringe producers make of CAFF?
• Fringe operates differently in different communities
• As festivals grow, they become more business oriented
• New festivals come to learn – non-CAFF festivals could contribute to the conversation – we exclude them
• Caff is a nationwide org with coherence – grass-roots in origin.
• Most member festivals take “reasonable liberties” with the CAFF principles to stay alive
• Can we keep it up? Can we reduce the erosion of our ideals?
• Institutions evolve
• Artists police us
• Value year-round from CAFF that we don’t exploit, sponsors, insurance, shared production economies
• Value in spending $ on staff and shared resources for Caff members
• CAFF staff person could help stop erosion by helping member organizations communicate better.
